The brief was to design a first floor extension for an existing bungalow, along with front and rear extensions. The particular challenge with this site is that the original house was constructed on an historic Victorian landfill. This meant that the existing structure needed to be underpinned, and that all proposed footings had to be designed using piles. Helical screw piles were selected for both underpinning and proposed foundations.
The first floor extension was designed as a timber frame, with timber first floor joist and a cut timber roof.
